RFE/RL's Turkmen Service
RFE/RL's Turkmen Service was established in 1953 as part of Radio Liberty broadcasting to the Soviet Union. Due to the nature of the current ruling regime, scientific audience surveys cannot be conducted. However, e-mail and SMS messages and letters from listeners suggest they value RFE/RL's broadcasts. The Turkmen Service is the only independent source for news and information in the country, with special emphasis given to topics such as democracy and human rights.

But the "pragmatism" of U.S. policy has left many hoping such idealism will return to how Washington approaches Central Asia. More

EU Fights For Nabucco's Future

The EU energy commissioner is set to visit Turkey and Azerbaijan to shore up support for the bloc's flagship Nabucco pipeline project. The EU hopes Nabucco will give it direct access to the huge natural-gas reserves around the Caspian Sea, which could eventually cover 10-15 percent of its total needs.
